Flotation
The process of separating the crushing residues by flotation is a step that enables to increase a lot the recovery rate of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, in order to sort them out and reach the recycling objectives defined by the new regulations (ELV, WEEE,…).
The sorting center in Saulnes has a treatment capacity of 120 000 tonnes/year, which makes it one of the biggest and most innovative in Europe. Its performances allow us to exceed the material recycling rates by 95% for many products that are crushed. We constantly improve this center with the latest separation technologies (magnetical, flotation, identification,…) so that we can increase the recycling rates and reduce the amount of ultimate waste which has to be sent to landfill sites.
The flotation on heavy liquids uses ferro-silicate and magnetite baths to separate sinking (Al, Cu, Zn, bronze, brass) and floating elements (elastomers, plastics, wood, Al, Mg,…). To separate the various metals, we use a the X-ray identification. This complementary system enables to get very pure products.
One last low-density flotation device allows to refine the separation between the floating elements to retrieve from them the last metals, plastics and organics energy recyclable materials.
